Dear Mr. Stamets, I’ve been a huge fan of yours for many years now. I am writing to you today because I think your extensive knowledge and experience can be an asset regarding my vision to save Lake Atitlan, the third largest freshwater lake in Guatemala. This lake was said to have been written about by Aldous Huxley where he referred to this lake as “the most beautiful lake in the world”. As an active mushroom cultivator and amateur mycologist I paid special attention when you publicly made statements about how to solve the problems in the Gulf with the recent oil spill utilizing mushrooms and hair to absorb the petro-waste and have it consumed by voracious mycelium. I feel that Lake Atitlan can be saved with the aid of fungi. In 2009 it came to the attention of the locals that cyanobacteria had been growing and blooming in the water. I have a few simple demands from creator this lifetime. I would like to teach and travel doing works of Shamanism and Alchemy I would like to be safe and free of religious persecution during my life of work (on Shamanism and Alchemy) I would like to learn many languages and speak them with friends at a fluent level as I travel and teach. When I feel inclined and often times when I am conducting a ceremony among friends with the medicine of the peoples of this land, I am most moved my the ancestors of this land. I have both the blood of the Cherokee and the Zapotec natives of America. I eat the food grown of this land and Mexico and because of growing up around the American South West, I have been influenced by the remainder of the people that were settled here first. I am going now, without plans to return. I will pass through the lands of my heritage and great many of the spirits of the Maya. This is the year of the quickening, the curtain fall and the great awakening. Recently (in 2008) the government of Ecuador granted "nature" consitutional inalienable rights and has been in court against the US born oil company Texaco (now Chevron) over damages to the Amazon and its people living in Ecuador. Well the good news is that Ecuador and the Rights of the Amazon won and Texaco was liable for $18 billion in restitution. The bad news is Texaco is trying to get out of pay back the wounded country and appeal the case on US soil. Please help us to enforce the laws of a country with great respect for nature and encourage Texaco to pay back damages to the Rain Forest.
